My name is Ross, I am an engineer in Ireland working for ‘the man’. I set up this website from my own experience to try and help others plan their trips better when going abroad. Hopefully you will find the website useful and have a little laugh at some of my misfortunes.
I know how frustrating it can be when you cannot find reliable information and have to piece together snippets of information found on a dozen websites.
I am not claiming to be any sage of information or have a team of helpers going through countries to give endless information. I am merely giving the information I know based on my personal experience. A lot of websites are trying to sell you something but on travellingforfun I am only giving information on the places I have been myself and whether I feel they are worth you seeing. I always use my own photos so hopefully the provide a good view on what the place looks and feels like. When going on holidays you don’t have endless time to visit everything in a city or country so picking and choosing what to see is important if you want to make the most of it.
After graduating from college and a few years in my first job I had saved enough money to be fortunate enough to be able to do the rite of passage of taking a year out to go travelling around the world. It was a brilliant experience and if circumstances allow I would encourage everybody to do it. When travelling you open your mind and learn new perspectives on culture, religion and language but also gives a sense of how lucky you are to be able to do it and how privileged we are in the developed world. I had travelled a decent amount before that trip and since I came back I have tried to continue going abroad to experience something new and different any chance I get and will continue to share my experiences. I haven’t got all the countries I would like up yet but I will keep updating the website over the coming months to hopefully make things a little easier for you. I have ducked, dived, bungeed, burned, skydived, surfed, volunteered, volcanoed, crossed continents, conquered mountains, got robbed, got sick and got drunk and I hope this website will inspire you to do the same.
